3 Levels of Dog Training, custom classes and private instruction is now offered.

Puppy Beginnings Course

Our puppy training program consists of 5 private consultations lasting for one-hour each. Price for this is $260 paid in 2 installments of $130. 1st payment is a deposit and 2nd payment on the third class.

Getting a puppy or any new dog is very exciting. Your dog starts learning the minute he enters your home, we tend to forget this. Learn how to handle those crucial first days of puppy-hood appropriately. We cover anything and everything you will need to start off on the right foot.

First Lesson: Best scheduled before the puppy arrives. We will cover what you are going to need and what to do with your bundle of joy from the minute you pick him/her up. House training, bite inhibition, leash/collar introduction, door manners will give you a good start on the path of creating a well behaved adult dog. As well we will be giving you a training introduction that is a crucial part to understanding dogs and how they think, and where they came from. This DVD will cost you an additional $25 but is WELL worth it. Just understanding how a dog thinks is the key to success.

Second Lesson: Puppy has now adjusted to his new surroundings. We truly believe that owning should be enjoyable, every lessons begins with a review. This allows us to make adjustments that best serve you, your dog and your family. Skills to be taught at in introductory level in this lesson will be; eye contact, leash work, response to the puppy’s name, and confinement.

Third Lesson: You are well on your way and having a great time. The new skills for this lesson are sit and walk away game. At the same time by the use of management tools we are creating the skills of listening even when there are distractions in the environment.

Fourth and Fifth Lessons: At these lessons you build on what you already know and take it on the road. What to do when you have your dog out in public. How to handle company in your home or the friendly neighbour who just wants to say hello. What do you do about other dogs?

After you have completed your puppy lessons we recommend doing a beginner course. This allows you to take all that information and rehearse it in a new environment with the distraction of other dogs and people. Remember these tools are what will give you that great adult dog. Obedience – Level 1 – Beginners Course

Shiphra Shepherds has developed a training program which is centered around household manners for the pet. However, if competition is your goal the exercises learned in this class will take you a step closer to the ring. Using what is rewarding to your dog and management techniques we help you to show your dog what is expected of him. Training becomes fun for the whole family; children are encouraged to take a role in training the dog so a mutual understanding can be learned. Remember it is far easier to teach your dog the proper habits than to try to alter bad habits later.

Loose Leash & Off Leash Walking

One of the most enjoyable aspects of owning a dog is going for a walk. Good for you and your dog, it is a time spent together. This is ruined by a dog that pulls on leash. In this course we go through two parts of walking on a loose leash; the dog finding the correct position and the dog coming into your space when there is pressure on his collar. Alternate means of walking your dog such as using a Halti, prong collar or harness will also be discussed. This course is 3 hours, a beginner class before this is recommended.

Length of Class: 3 Sessions in 2 weeks (1.5 hours each week)
Cost: $165
